VOICES AND FACES FROM THE GROUND

Handuraw: Memories of the Heart

“HANDURAW: Memories of the Heart” is a moving Musical Dance Drama that captures the soul of Colegio del Sagrado Corazon de Jesus, Inc. (CSCJ) as it celebrates its 108th Founding Anniversary and the Indigenous Peoples Month. Presented at the Lady’s Hall of CSCJ on September 18–19, 2025, and again at the Iloilo Convention Center on October 21, 2025, with another encore performance scheduled for December 2025, HANDURAW stands as a living testimony of faith, culture, and the enduring Vincentian spirit.

Spearheaded by Sr. Ma. Asuncion G. Evidente, DC, Sister President of CSCJ, and artistically directed by Mr. Romel Flogen, this production unites students and teachers in a creative symphony of music, movement, and memory. The title HANDURAW is a Hiligaynon word meaning “reminiscence” or “a vision recalled by the heart,” beautifully encapsulating the school’s journey through time: its humble beginnings, its commitment to service, and its continuing legacy of transformative education rooted in faith and compassion.

More than a cultural presentation, HANDURAW is a story of remembrance and reawakening. Through lyrical dances, evocative songs, and powerful storytelling, the performance revisits the historical roots and spiritual foundation of CSCJ. It honors the countless lives touched by the institution’s mission to form hearts that are responsive to God’s call and attuned to the needs of people living in poverty.

What makes HANDURAW even more meaningful is the participation of six student performers from the Indigenous community of Boracay, where the Daughters of Charity continue their pastoral mission among the Ati people, advocating for their rights to ancestral land and cultural dignity. Their presence on stage transforms the performance into an act of solidarity and advocacy, a reminder that art, when infused with purpose, becomes a channel of justice and love.

As the lights dim and the final notes linger in the air, HANDURAW invites every viewer to reflect on the living memories of faith, resilience, and shared humanity that bind the CSCJ community together. It is a heartfelt celebration of history, of culture, and of God’s continuing work in the lives of those who dare to serve and dream.

In every beat, gesture, and lyric, HANDURAW reminds us that to remember is to give thanks, and to celebrate is to continue the mission, a mission that began 108 years ago and continues to unfold through every student, teacher, personnel, parents, alumni, stakeholders and the community of DC Sisters who carry the flame of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
