VOICES AND FACES FROM THE GROUND

Provincial House Ongoing Formation Highlights: Responsible Digital Mission

The Provincial House hosted a three-day ongoing formation (OGF) for Lay Mission Partners (LAMPs) and Sisters from January 13 to 15, 2026. The sessions focused on the Philippine Data Privacy Act (PDPA) and the Province of St. Louise de Marillac-Asia (PSLM-A) Social Media Policy. This initiative responded to emerging challenges in online communication, recognizing that institutional work and evangelization are increasingly carried out in digital spaces.

Formation sessions on the Philippine Data Privacy Act were facilitated by Sr. Belen BEATO, DC, who outlined its legal, ethical, and penal provisions designed to safeguard human dignity and promote the common good. Complementing this, Sr. Rowena ENCINAS, DC, presented the PSLM-A Social Media Policy and mission-centered communication, emphasizing digital evangelization, responsible online engagement rooted in Christian-Vincentian values, and the protection of minors and vulnerable persons in digital spaces.

The PDPA underscores lawful processing, confidentiality, security safeguards, and accountability in the handling of personal information. Participants were reminded that violations carry corresponding sanctions, including fines and imprisonment. Beyond compliance, respect for data privacy was presented as a moral responsibility, deeply aligned with the Church’s mission to uphold the dignity of persons entrusted to its care.

The sessions affirmed the beauty and missionary potential of social media. Platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, X, YouTube, LinkedIn, and various messaging applications were highlighted as “digital courtyards” where identity, values, and works of charity can be shared. Ultimately, these spaces were recognized as vital avenues for making Christ known in today’s interconnected world.

Participants were encouraged to cultivate online virtues—prudence, charity, truthfulness, and humility—while observing consent, copyright, cybersecurity, and safeguarding minors. They affirmed that responsible digital presence is not only a matter of compliance but a contemporary expression of ecclesial and Vincentian witness.
