St. Vincent’s Home at 25: A Journey Shared in Love

Contributor: Sr. Gemma Lee, DC - South Korea
On September 12, 2026, St. Vincent’s Home in Yangju, South Korea, celebrated its 25th anniversary. From its beginnings as a home for elderly people without family support to its present ministry as a nursing home, this occasion offered an opportunity to give thanks for a journey sustained by God’s grace.

Bishop Benedictus Son Hee-song of Uijeongbu presided over the Thanksgiving Mass. Local officials, benefactors, volunteers, and staff joined in the celebration. Plaques of appreciation were presented to Mr. Francis Min Myeong-sul and his wife, who generously built and donated the original home, and to longstanding committee members and volunteers. Staff members were also honored for their dedicated care of the elderly.
The hands that gently tended an elderly person’s hair, the effort freely given, the faithful footsteps returning to our door—these acts of love have shaped our 25 years. Together with the quiet help and prayers of so many others, they have made St. Vincent’s Home the welcoming home it is today.

We remain committed to serving Christ in the elderly, upholding each person’s dignity and rights, and helping them live each day with happiness. We will also strive to make our Home a place where staff can work in health of body and mind, and where everyone who visits leaves with warmth in their heart.

When, years from now, people look back on their time here, we hope they will remember: “I was surrounded by warmth and kindness there.” With this hope in our hearts, we take another step forward.
