DC Health Ministry Convention 2025: Weaving Together a Future of Healing and Hope
The moment we began the "mending the net" activity at the recent DC Health Ministry convention, I felt something stir deeply within me. It wasn’t just another convention—it was a spiritual encounter, a living renewal of the Catholic-Vincentian Charism that has always guided our mission. Under the care of the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul, Province of St. Louise de Marillac – Asia, this simple act became a powerful symbol of hope, setting us on a path toward a future of healing,

It was important that we started small. The first, essential step was taking our individual portions of the net. Delegates—from San Juan de Dios EFI-H (using blue mending threads), USIHS – Mother Seton (green mending threads), and Saint Anthony CRI-H (orange mending threads)—each focused on diligently merging their own threads, creating a unique institutional fabric. As our hands carefully wove these nets back together, it was a vivid reminder that the strength of the entire ministry is dependent on the vitality of its parts. To serve effectively, each hospital must first ensure its own house is whole and ready, aligning its mission and operations with Vincentian values. This internal mending makes each institution a robust vessel, truly reflecting our founders' commitment to serve Christ in the person of the poor and forming the wellspring of hope and resilience for the communities they serve.

The most moving part was the final, significant action: merging our three separate hospital nets into one single, unified structure. This single, large net is the compelling visual proof that our overall mission - to deliver compassionate, quality care and prioritize the marginalized - is a shared labor of love. It made visible the profound necessity of partnership, shared sacrifice, and collective witness. The symbolism immediately brought to mind the Gospel narrative in Luke 5:7, where the disciples signaled their partners for help to prevent the nets from breaking under the abundant catch. Our unified net, therefore, doesn't just represent collaboration; it promises the abundance of God's grace in our work. By truly uniting our resources, talent, and charity, we guarantee that the ministry will not only prevent its resources from breaking but will expand its capacity to gather a greater harvest of healing, hope, and Dignity for the Poor.
This newly mended net is now our heartfelt compass and our promise. It serves as the unwavering guide for the DC Health Ministry, committing us to a future where we operate with a unity of vision, anchored by the enduring principles of our Founders: Steadfastness in service of the sick, especially the poorest (understanding that poverty extends far beyond financial hardship to include the deep suffering of loneliness, poor health, and spiritual need); and Boldness in collaboration, ready to pool talent and compassion to tackle the toughest healthcare challenges. The mending of the net perfectly symbolizes the collective strength required for the ministry to flourish. It reaffirms our commitment to be a single, mighty force, ensuring that the light of our faith and the warmth of our care—a true reflection of the Vincentian Charism—will bring healing and hope in abundance to all God's people in the years to come. Our future is bright, woven with mended threads and bound by common purpose and service of the Lord's least.
