VOICES AND FACES FROM THE GROUND

Walking Together in Hope: The PNG Visitation Story

From 4–11 February 2026, Sr. Anna Wiwiek, DC, General Councilor, and Sr. Josie Onag, DC, Visitatrix, visited the Blessed Rosalie Rendu Community of the Papua New Guinea (PNG) Mission. There, they joined Sr. Theresa John (Province of Nigeria) and Sr. Lily Ventura, DC (Province of St. Louise de Marillac-Asia), who serve in the mission. It began with joyful welcomes—from songs and traditional offerings at the airport to cultural dances and music in Hagita—turning each moment into a celebration of unity and gratitude.

On the second day, the Sisters visited Sacred Heart Secondary School and Milne Bay Teachers College, engaging with leaders on academic and pastoral concerns and strengthening collaboration for holistic, faith filled education. In the following days, their mission to Bolubolu Island unfolded through a reflective sea journey, warm hospitality in the former Franciscans of Mary Immaculate (FMI) Sisters’ house, and moments of gratitude amid schedule changes, allowing them to experience the island’s beauty, community support, and renewed spirit of service.

On Day 4, the Sisters joined Bishop Jacek in Mataita for the Eucharist, dialogue, and fellowship, while also experiencing the community’s natural blessing of the cave spring. The Sunday worship deepened unity and mission collaboration, highlighted by sacramental celebrations of Confirmation and Matrimony.

After a peaceful return to Bolubolu by dinghy, the Sisters visited the Vocational School and shared an evening meal with Bishop Jacek, Fr. John, Sr. Aiza, DCV, and companions, deepening fellowship through mission centered conversation.

The return to Alotau was marked by calm seas that later turned stormy, yet the group arrived safely. Back in Hagita, the Feast of Blessed Rosalie Rendu was joyfully celebrated with Mass and the blessing of new training programs in sewing, cooking and baking, and wellness, where mothers and community members led with confidence, embodying empowerment and collaboration.
With grateful hearts, we thank God for guiding every step of this visitation. The days shared with Sr. Anna and Sr. Josie were filled with grace, courage, and the joy of walking together in the spirit of St. Vincent, St. Louise, and Blessed Rosalie Rendu. Their presence rekindled hope and strengthened our mission as one Vincentian family.

We carry in our hearts a profound gratitude for Bishop Jacek, Fr. John Kuvali, the school leaders, teachers, families, and all who welcomed us with such warmth and generosity. Their presence was not merely supportive— what might have been a simple passage of events was transformed into a living testimony of communion and collaboration.

We honor the resilience of our people—the mothers shaping programs at the Blessed Rosalie Rendu Development Center, the teachers guiding students with limited resources, and the families who sail unpredictable seas for the good of the community.

Across sea journeys, parish celebrations, and community gatherings, the visitation renewed our Vincentian spirit, deepened our mission among the people, and reflected the enduring inspiration of Blessed Rosalie Rendu. To God be all glory and praise!
