The Initial Formation on Mission (IFM) gives the young Sister the opportunity to strengthen her commitment to her vocation by giving herself totally to God, living consistently a life of prayer community and service of persons in poverty situations. During this stage, she undertakes Theological and Pastoral studies and integration into the Local Community. She prepares herself to fully embrace the life of a Daughter of Charity through her emission of the Vows for the first time.
This final and longest stage of the initial formation has three (3) phases.
PHASE I
It is a period where the young Sister tries to find meaning in the realities and circumstances that she experiences while integrating herself into the Local Community after an intensive formation in the Seminary. This is a stage of transition from the privileged time of interiorization in the Seminary to a more engaged life and mission. (1 Year)
PHASE II
It is a period where the Sister takes up Theological/Pastoral studies while discerning her readiness for full commitment as a Daughter of Charity. She gives importance to her formation studies to deepen her understanding and appreciation of the realities around her, the different cultures, her capacity for self-sacrifice, generosity, time management, and living a balanced life. She views her Theological studies as a necessary means for a better service of the poor and not only for personal advancement. (2 Years)
PHASE III
In Phase III of Initial Formation on Mission, the Sister is sent to a Local Community to gain further experiences and deepen her commitment to Christ within the Company, and the Church. This phase provides opportunities for growth in her vocation as she prepares for her emission of vows for the first time. It is important to note that the emission of vows is a Community event and not a religious profession. The celebration is marked by joy and thanksgiving and is defined by simplicity and poverty.
